Why can not naturists use pen names?
In a recent blog I addressed six practical matters that naturists can perform to be more proactive in promoting naturism. The first idea was to come out of the closet’ as a naturist to trusted folks family, friends and co-workers. It’s interesting this suggestion is often matched with a good number of lively dialogue. It’s after all a sensitive problem. It takes time to reach the point of taking your clothes off in public, and it takes even more hours getting to the stage of telling others about one’s experience and choice to practice social nudity.
One of many interesting answers we received (about the recommendation to come out as a naturist) was criticism of our FKK organization’s leaders because of their use of pen names. The criticism, which was posted as public opinion, was cynical and judgmental (strange really coming from fellow naturists), implying that FKK leaders are hypocritical to propose that naturists come out’, while they themselves use pen names. The criticism was so far off balance that it deserves some attention, so that new nudies, who may run into such extremist attitudes, don’t shy away from naturism and the pleasure of sharing our bare culture with others.
Let’s begin by noting the recommendation to come out as a naturist was balanced with satisfactory guidance. We advocated that the coming out be exercised with caution aimed at trusted people in your life and with the understanding that there are some folks you may never tell your nudie ventures to. This can be because, for many people, it can have serious effects – in the work place for example. Use of pen names in national media is one kind of care that some people pick for all types of valid reasons. Actually it’s a common practice in many settings other than simply naturism.

The thought of coming out is certainly not hypocritical with respect to the usage of pen names on the net or in the world media at large. There’s an obvious and huge common sense difference between coming out to trusted people within your real life family, close social groups and professional network vs. coming out willy-nilly to the entire world through on-line social media, movie, television, etc. Graduating from the use of a pen name to the use of one’s real name can be a very significant decision with far reaching results, which for some people involves many complicated considerations. Needless to say, many actors and writers use pen names their whole lives. They even use their nom de plume when recommending for particular causes. Yet it appears like only in beach ass do we have a smattering of tyrannical naturists who vehemently and vocally claim that all their hard work doesn’t mean much because they usually do not attach their birth name. Some rationales that nudie leaders who decide to come out to relatives and buddies, but not to the world at large, include things like: stalkers, intimidation, public slander, job related susceptibility, societal or extended family complications and the list goes on.
The type of immature, one-size-fits-all doctrine, that accuses naturist leaders of hypocrisy for the use of pen names is thoughtless really. Arrogantly chiding some folks for not measuring around an artificially contrived and fanatically demanded set of nudests makes absolutely no sense. That is the surest method to establish the wrong example to new nudies and may (understandably) scare them away.
I mean after all, what these critics of FKK are really suggesting by their thoughtless remarks is that anyone who wants to get involved in naturism and desires to blog or recommend for it within the media, is a hypocrite if they aren’t willing or able to divulge to the whole world all their personal information?
At FKK we usually do not strive to establish such callous expectancies of others. The usage of pen names by some FKK leaders rather than by others is the FKK manner of saying it’s all about the love!’ We don’t expect folks to stop trying their privacy or personal freedom so that you can become a nudie if they do not freely choose to do this. Consequently, using a pen name, or not, by FKK leaders is highly consistent with our most important core values and in no way hypocritical in my own perspective.
In conclusion, let us hope that most nudies respect each other (naturist leader or not) enough to allow one another the common courtesy to be as open or discreet as they choose about their choice to practice naturism. They should be enabled to thrive within an environment that enables them to progress to whatever extent of coming out’ that they are comfortable with in their own time and own way without being judged because of their choices.
